The need for libarys

Libraries are an open space for people to work, learn and read. They are part of our lives whether we like it or not. Recently we have been having trouble with space in our cities, due to overpopulation. Many services are now being seen as commodities. Libraries in particular are seen as a asset in which we can’t afford. Libraries are under threat  because they are seen as something which we can’t sustain as they are apparently to expensive for what they are. I believe that they are of a more pillar to our community as they provide services that nothing else can. Libraries are a place in which all people can, learn rich or poor, they provide us with so much knowledge. Not only this but they provide a space to learn this information easily. They contain knowledge that can only be accessed through libraries. This is information that is key to our society as it shows us to be intelligent, many people think that this separates humans from other animals. we have ability to save important scraps of material and saving this is a lot harder with out libraries.I believe that libraries are a necessity to our society and are essential to how we live.

You can also set one up in any space, to prove this point some one set one up in my local phone box. This was a great gift to the community as their is a church and two schools near by. I Think this is a great way to get kids into reading and make them feel at home in a library. The phone box used to get smashed up all the time, now it has a purpose it doesn’t get wreaked. Adults use this library too, this makes the library multipurpose and keeps its customers. I think that Library’s are like IMDb before it existed. They are a place to go to find new books and get suggestions from like-minded people. Some library’s have movie sessions for movie maniacs like me. This is good as it stops people from watching illegal movies. This is another great reason to keep library’s. It stop the illegal download of books and movies. This give not just to a community, but the authors and film directors out there. My sister is a fan of international films, the library and amazon are the only places that she can get these movies. My sister would defiantly be broke with out a library.

Some people say that we don’t need libraries anymore. As we all download books, and movies. This is true, but their are some people, like me that just like turning real pages, not fake ones. Also their are the elderly that can’t use this tech as nimbly as us young people. Some library’s are great for meeting people too. They are community centers used for meetings. People meet at libraries for many reasons, some people meet for clubs held by the Libary, others to talk to someone who is interested in the same things as themselves. Their are a unlimited range of other uses for a library than just reading. If we were to get rid of library’s their would not be a place for all of these people.

Some people don’t have accesses to the internet from home anyway. Libraries are the only way these people can get hold of these functions. without a library many people will struggle to do basic tasks. Not only that many people will loses their jobs if all libraries were to shut. I believe this also is something that marks us as an intelligent society. Libraries are a place to store hard copies of documents too, no just reading centers for us young, and obnoxious kid’s. Where will look for books when we can’t buy them online or at the shops.Shutting down libaries won’t only make simple task really hard for some people but we will losses so much data and records which are only in books.

Some people think libraries are uninteresting, they mostly are, but that’s not a reason to shut them, and anyway their are loads of things that are not necessities to modern living  that are boring that are not going to shut. Also I don’t think the majority of people who say Libraries are boring  have been to the Barbican . I think this is the best library in London. It is an awesome architectural feats as well as a really cool urban library. This show that libraries can have other influences too like the phone box library near my house, they aren’t just made for what inside them, it about the purpose which they stand for, the Barbican was set up to be a spotlight for literature and other art forms. The post box library was made as a place to nurture people into going to library’s  and make one which is easily accessible. They have other importance’s too not just a place you can get hard to find books.  Who hasn’t been to a library at least once anyway. They have got to be good enough for everyone to have been there. You can’t say the same about carphone warehouse.

People say that nobody goes to libraries nowadays as you are forced to read in silence. Remind me when was the last time you listened to silence? Not the ‘silence’ you listen to on the streets with cars and the noise of the city, but the silence where you actually aren’t listening to anything. Where you are alone with only your thoughts.

The point I am trying to get across is reading in public, there are too many distractions. unless your iPhone is your soul mate which is getting more common now, libraries are a gift for those who like to read something more interesting.

Anything you post here in the public domain represents you and thus it’s important that you take care with that decision, but don’t be afraid to publish your work – as the feedback you may get from people at home, your peers and people from around the internet is only likely to enhance it.

Remember you can always access your class blog and all manner of resources through the Edutronic main website – and by all means check out the sites of your peers to see what they’re getting up to as well.

If you have any questions for your teacher, an excellent way to get an answer is to create a new private post on this journal. Your teachers are am notified of any new posts and will reply swiftly to any queries.
